Mauna Loa — Mspcam

A USGS view (MSP) toward Ka Lae — South Point — the southernmost tip of Hawaii Island and of the entire United States, where Kīlauea's Southwest Rift Zone reaches the sea. This windswept, grassy headland is buffeted by relentless trade winds (note the wind-bent trees and historic Hawaiian canoe moorings) and is one of the first-settled places in the islands. The camera ties the volcano's rift system to the coastline at the island's far southern end. Conditions are usually clear and very windy. Part of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory network; Hawaii keeps a single year-round time zone.
