About these cameras
This is two very different networks in one place. The Hawaii side is Kilauea — the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory cameras around Halemaʻumaʻu crater and the summit, which during active episodes show fountaining and glow in real time, plus Mauna Loa monitoring views.
The Alaska side is the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) network: dozens of monitoring cameras on and around volcanoes like Augustine, Cleveland, Shishaldin, Pavlof, Redoubt, and Spurr, many of them in places with no road access at all. AVO cams are working scientific instruments — most of the time they show quiet mountains and weather, which is exactly what makes the occasional ash plume or steam event on them remarkable.
