California has over 800 miles of coastline, and thanks to Caltrans cameras, you can watch some of the most beautiful stretches live. We’ve curated 30 scenic highway cameras that go far beyond checking traffic — these are legitimate scenic views.

Lake Tahoe & the Sierra

Tahoe’s cameras show why this is one of America’s most beautiful lakes:

Best time: Winter for snow-capped peaks, summer for crystal blue water.

Malibu & Pacific Coast Highway

PCH through Malibu is one of the most iconic drives in the world. Our Caltrans cameras capture it live:

The Central Coast

Between LA and San Francisco lies California’s most underrated coastline:

  • Pismo Beach — classic Central Coast beach town
  • Hearst Castle area cameras — dramatic Big Sur-adjacent views

Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area offers some of the most recognizable views on Earth. While we’re working on adding more Bay Area cameras, the existing Caltrans cams capture the iconic bridges and waterfront.

Southern California Beaches

Beyond Malibu, SoCal’s beaches are legendary:

Why Caltrans Cameras Are Special

Most webcam sites show tourist resort cameras. Caltrans cameras are different:

  1. They’re positioned for scenic views — highway cameras at dramatic vantage points
  2. They’re always on — no subscription, no paywall, 24/7 streaming
  3. HLS streams — high quality video, not static images
  4. Multiple angles — some locations have 2-3 cameras covering different directions

Seasonal Highlights

  • Spring (March–May): Wildflower blooms visible on hillside cameras, clear skies
  • Summer (June–August): Morning fog (“June Gloom”) burns off to reveal blue skies
  • Fall (September–November): Clearest visibility, warm temperatures, golden light
  • Winter (December–February): Dramatic storms, big surf, snow on the Sierra cameras

Coming Soon

We’re actively adding more California cameras, with a focus on:

  • More Big Sur and Highway 1 viewpoints
  • San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge views
  • Yosemite gateway cameras
  • San Diego coastal cameras

Check out our California cameras page for the full collection, organized by region.
