Kilauea — KOcam Kīlauea Mauna Ulu

Kilauea, Usgs

About This Camera

A USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory view (KO) of Kīlauea's Upper East Rift Zone, the corridor that carries magma from the summit toward the volcano's east flank. This rift fed the long-lived Puʻu ʻŌʻō eruption (1983–2018) and the catastrophic 2018 lower-East-Rift eruption that destroyed hundreds of homes in Leilani Estates. The camera shows the rift's landscape of old lava shields and revegetating flows; when activity shifts down-rift, this is among the first stretches to register it. Weather ranges from clear to misty and vog-laden. Hawaii stays on one time zone all year.
