Kilauea — V1cam West Halemaʻumaʻu Crater

This is a USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory camera (V1) watching Halemaʻumaʻu crater from the western rim of Kīlauea's summit caldera, on the Big Island of Hawaii — one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. Halemaʻumaʻu, traditionally the home of the volcano deity Pele, has been the site of repeated lava-lake activity and eruptions, and this wide-angle view is one of the primary feeds scientists and the public use to watch the summit in real time. During eruptions, the view can show lava fountaining, an active lava lake, and incandescence that is especially vivid after dark; between eruptions it shows the vast, steaming crater floor and the dramatic scarps left by the 2018 summit collapse, which dropped the caldera floor by hundreds of feet. Weather at the 4,000-foot summit changes quickly, with vog (volcanic smog), rain, and clear spells alternating. Hawaii has no daylight saving time. The camera is part of the USGS monitoring network within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, which tracks Kīlauea's seismicity, ground deformation, and gas output around the clock. Eruptions here can begin with little warning, so this feed is one of the best ways to catch Kīlauea in action as it happens.
